What do you do with blank spaces in an online graduate school application?

Mary H asked:
I’m applying to graduate school. The majority of the schools I’m applying to don’t offer paper applications, which means I must fill out online applications. With traditional paper applications, you write N/A in fields that don’t apply to you. Do I do the same for online applications, or just leave the fields blank? In some parts of the application, the instructions specifically say: leave field blank.

For the other fields, do I just leave them empty, or physically write N/A in every single field?

If you cannot truthfully and accurately answer a question, you leave it blank, or select an option that explains that that field is not applicable.

Whether you write N/A or leave it blank is not going to matter. These applications are not nearly as strict as everyone seems to think they are. Just be clear, and follow directions when they are provided, because if you do not, you will look like an idiot.
