How does graduate school work?

I will be graduating with my bachelors in Sociology next year….now what? I definately want to go to Graduate School, but do I have to go in only Sociology Masters Programs, or could I pick something similar to Sociology, like law, etc? Also, I want to apply to different schools but there so expensive, I think I could only apply to one.
