Any chances that I get in a good grad school?

Friday, June 24th, 2011
Seth86 asked:

I’ve a very low GRE scores (720 combined) and I’m planning to apply for grad school for Fall admission. Everything else in my application is good. I have an overall GPA of 3.73 (4.0 in my minor which is the field I want to pursue grad school in) and my recommenders told me they’ll provide excellent letters. With such a low GRE do I really have a chance of getting in a good school?

I am planning on living on my own and attending grad school. I want to try and go to grad school full time so I don’t have to stay in school for another four years. Has anyone done this before? Is it possible? I’m just so worried about it.

Would it benefit me to contact grad school admissions counselors to see what I need to fix?

Monday, June 20th, 2011
MagnumCT asked:

I was a terrible undergrad student, finishing with a 2.4 something or else. Now I want to go to grad school. I know things can be fixed, but I’m wondering if I should contact the school I’m interested in and ask them what I should be working on. Is this an acceptable practice?

Attending grad school witn no professional experience in the field?

Sunday, June 19th, 2011
cancankant asked:

I am considering grad school for either social work or mental health counseling. I am leary of making the investment because I have no experience in what would be considered either social work or psychology.

My undergrad degree is in psychology, but there are limited opportunties for its use in a work setting. I am considering applying for some volunteer counseling positions so that I am not trying to get an advanced degree in something where I have no professional experience. I worked for the department of corrections as an officer for four years, which is the only experience that I have that is remotely related to social work/counseling, but I am no longer in that field. I returned to office work in order to finish my bachelor’s degree and have a more stable home life.

What do you think is the best course of action?
Wisconsin requires 3000 hours of supervised counseling for either mental health counselor or LCSW.
I just wondered if when applying for jobs after grad school they would wonder why I never worked in the field before seeking an advanced degree.

What is your opinion on getting married while in grad school?

Friday, June 17th, 2011
jlee asked:

Do you think it is alright to get married while you are still in grad school or do you think it is better to get married after you graduate? I want to become a School Psychologist and will have to go through grad school and a 1 year internship before I graduate. I was wondering what you think about getting married while in grad school based on the finiacial part. Will getting married while still in school put a finicial burden on the marriage, and what if having a baby comes up before graduation?

How do I make a list look professional for a grad school applicaton?

Tuesday, June 14th, 2011
David C asked:

I am applying to grad school, and one of the things I need to include in my application is

“a list of computer skills and experience, including knowledge of software applications and Web skills”.

I am wondering if anyone can give me suggestions on how I can format this list to make it look presentable? Do I just list them one, two three? Or how should I set the page up?

Thanks!

Should I work to gain experience and go to grad school at the same time?

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011
niagarav16 asked:

I am going to school to be a clinical psychologist. I have heard thats it best to gain experience before entering grad school and I also heard that it wouldn’t hurt to enter grad school directly after undergrad. So i was just wondering which would be best and whether or not i could do both at the same time.
