Can you use work experience less than 1 year for graduate school application?

Friday, November 6th, 2009
Naia N asked:

I am applying to do research in the area of microbiology for graduate school. Can I use work experience that is not related to my field of study when filling in the graduate program application form or should I just leave it blank? I’ve only done some tutoring and temporary teaching after high school. I also did a 2-month internship at a research center for my undergraduate degree.

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009
Mark Jonathon asked:

One of the top business schools in the United States, the City University of New York’s Baruch College has extended its world-class business education to students worldwide. Baruch College currently offers a range of international degree and postgraduate programs, of which some of the most successful programs are located in Singapore, managed in collaboration with leading Graduate School, the Aventis School of Management (Asia).

Headed by Professor Avner Wolf, the Executive Director of International Programs at Baruch College, the partnership has been incredibly successful, offering some of the finest programs in Finance, Marketing, Human Resources and Leadership in Asia. Professor Wolf maintains a close personal involvement in these programs, and is extremely pleased with their outcomes. He firmly believes in taking time to listen to professors, students, the alumni and even people on the street, and using the feedback to refine the courses into a quality business education that is culturally relevant to Singapore.

Baruch College in Singapore stands apart from other business schools in its unique emphasis on practical application. Professor Wolf personally selects the faculty, bringing many of Baruch College’s brightest and most experienced professors from New York to teach in Singapore. Faculty members come from diverse backgrounds and possess real-world business knowledge and experience as CEOs, CFOs or senior executives in their organizations.

Professor Wolf reveals that one of the most rewarding experiences in managing the programs lies in the graduation ceremonies, where he “sees many happy faces of his students”. With a deep commitment to the programs’ success, he personally teaches in some of the courses offered in Singapore, including one this September which he and his students look forward to with great anticipation.

The importance of a quality business education that places high value on business ethics and practical application in today’s global markets cannot be overlooked. Modern businesses now look for graduates with a sound understanding of the dynamic nature of today’s business climate and financial markets, which only top-notch business schools like Baruch College can provide, thus equipping and preparing students for illustrious success in their careers ahead.

The Best Business Schools in America

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009
Cherie Ang asked:

If you’re looking to go far in the world of business, few things will help you achive your goals like an MBA degree. There are thousands of universities where you can get said degree, but if your have the funds and the grades, you might want to think about going to one of the top schools in the country. Here, we’ll take a look at a few of these top business schools and see why any graduate of their program is going to find the road to success just a little less bumpy.

One of the top ranked business schools in the country, consistently, is Harvard. It’s not an easy school to get into by any means, but neither are any of the schools that constantly rank high in any of the surveys that count. They have a very stringent admission policy, and you won’t be getting in with a C average, no matter who your father is. With a degree from Harvard you can practically write your own ticket, and from anecdotal data, graduates seem to know this. Chief complaints from recruiters seem to intimate that Harvard MBA grads are cocky and have a sense of entitlement, which may be off-putting to some companies.

Located in New York City, Columbia Business School is another of the top business universities in the country. If Harvard’s admission policies are stringent, Columbia’s are nearly impossible, and they have one of the lowest admission rates in the United States among business schools. Among others, Warren Buffet obtained his MBA from Columbia, and went on to become the second richest man in the world. Your like success is not guaranteed.

The University of Chicago Graduate School of Business is also one of the most successful and prominent schools in the country. Unlike the other schools of its caliber, the school’s business program is somewhat flexible, allowing the student to create their own program within a broad set of requirements. This separates Chicago from Columbia and Harvard, in that these schools require that the student traverse a stringent path towards graduation, with little wiggle room. It has been the number one ranked business school by BusinessWeek for two years running.

To maximize your success in the business world, you need to have an MBA degree. With a higher percentage of students than ever going on to complete graduate school, the competition is too tough in today’s American to leave yourself at such a stunning disadvantage. While the above schools (and there are others) will give you a decided leg up, just about any MBA degree will help make your career course a little brighter, and raise the glass ceiling a little higher.

Monday, November 2nd, 2009
iPotter asked:

While doing a bit of research on this topic, I found a couple of doctors who, in their full profiles, had Medical School and Graduate School listed as different areas of study.

Does anyone know why this is?
Thanks!
